What To Expect

Visiting a Speech Language Pathologist (SLP or Speech Therapist) and being fitted for a SpeechEasy fluency device.

Let's say you are interested in obtaining a SpeehEasy device, what is the process?

Following is a brief overview of the steps, so you know what to expect:

  1. Video Clip - Click a link below to see Vincent Lovell discuss his first time using SpeechEasy. You locate the Providing SLP (Speech Language Pathologist) nearest to you who is certified to dispense and fit SpeechEasy devices. A complete provider list can be found on our website www.speecheasy.com.
  2. You contact the Providing SLP to schedule an appointment for an evaluation.
  3. You arrive at your appointment:
    • These evaluations typically take about 3 hours. The cost for this session varies by SLP, so to ensure you understand what to expect, ask what the cost will be.
    • Your stuttering will be measured and assessed, and you will be given the opportunity to try a demonstration version of SpeechEasy. During this process, the SLP will custom-program the device to achieve the greatest improvement in fluency - and you will be able to determine if SpeechEasy is right for you.
    • You will be given the opportunity to try the SpeechEasy in a 'real world' (out of the office) setting.
  4. Once the evaluation is complete, you can decide to purchase - or not.
  5. Should you decide to purchase:
    • You will be given instructions to visit a local audiologist for an ear impression and a hearing evaluation.
    • The cost for the impression and evaluation varies by audiologist, so to ensure you understand what to expect, ask what the cost will be.
    • Once these are completed, you will need to return the ear impression and information to the Providing SLP.
  6. The ear impression and SpeechEasy order are forwarded to the companies involved in the manufacturing and programming process.
  7. In about 3 weeks, your custom-made device is sent back to your Providing SLP.
  8. The Providing SLP will contact you to schedule a 'final fitting' appointment.
  9. When you arrive at this appointment, you can expect:
    • To spend approximately 1-2 hours with the Providing SLP. The SLP will be ...
      • Checking the overall fit of the device.
      • Teaching you how to insert and remove the device.
      • Performing device programming and making any final changes to the settings.
      • Adjusting the volume.
      • Demonstrating proper care and maintenance.
      • Demonstrating additional therapeutic techniques.
  10. You will have 60 days from the time of this 'final fitting' appointment to decide whether to keep the device...or to return it for a 90% refund.
