Helping Your Clients Obtain SpeechEasy Devices
(Please provide a copy of this section to clients and their families seeking information on how to obtain SpeechEasy.)
If you have discussed SpeechEasy with your primary speech-language pathologist (SLP) and decided that you are interested in finding out if SpeechEasy is right for you:
- Locate the providing SLP nearest to you who is certified to dispense and fit SpeechEasy devices. You can access a complete provider list on our website at www.speecheasy.com.
- Contact the providing SLP to schedule an appointment for an evaluation. The cost for this session varies by SLP, so you may want to ask about charges when you schedule your appointment.
- What you can expect at your evaluation appointment:
- Evaluations typically last about 3 hours.
- Your stuttering will be measured and assessed and you will be given the opportunity to try a demonstration version of SpeechEasy. During this process, the dispensing SLP will custom-program the device to achieve the greatest improvement in fluency so you will be able to determine if SpeechEasy is right for you.
- You will be given the opportunity to test SpeechEasy in a "real world" setting outside of the office.
- Once the evaluation is complete, you can decide if you want to purchase SpeechEasy or not.
- If you decide to purchase a SpeechEasy device:
- You will be given instructions to visit a local audiologist for an ear impression and a hearing evaluation. The cost for this session varies by audiologist, so you may want to ask about charges when you schedule this appointment. At the end of your appointment, the audiologist will give you the ear impression and information about your evaluation.
- You will need return to the Providing SLP with the ear impression and information you received from the audiologist.
- The Providing SLP will forward the ear impression and SpeechEasy order to the companies involved in the manufacturing and programming process.
- In about 3 weeks, your custom-made device is sent back to your Providing SLP.
- The dispensing SLP will contact you to schedule a "final fitting" appointment.
- What you can expect at this appointment:
- Finally fitting appointments typically last between 1 to 2 hours. During this time, the dispensing SLP will be:
- Checking the overall fit of the device.
- Teaching you how to insert and remove the device.
- Performing device programming and making any final changes to the settings.
- Adjusting the volume.
- Demonstrating proper care and maintenance.
- Demonstrating additional therapeutic techniques.
- Schedule an appointment with your primary SLP to discuss treatment options that will help you achieve the best results with SpeechEasy
Please Note: SpeechEasy stands behind its products. You have 60 days from the time of your final fitting appointment to decide whether to keep the device ... or return it for a 90% refund.
