I was a severe stutter when I got the device. I started speaking more fluently and am more confidant and feel better about myself. I can talk on the phone again and talk to people without being afraid. I thank God for leading me to Speech Easy.

Hi my name is Heather Lane from Cleburne, Texas, and my 11-year-old daughter, Brooke, has been wearing a SpeechEasy for the past 2 years. I am excited to share our positive experience and at the thought of helping someone else. Stuttering is a true disability; it is a struggle to communicate. I watched Brooke's confidence sink as her stutter caused her to become a quiet little girl.

Brooke has struggled with communication since she was a baby. Bless her heart, she is 11 but she is behind 3 years. Everyone expects more from her because she is taller than everyone else. But she suffers from chronic ear infections and sinus infections. What she heard as a baby was muffled, so she used signed language until she was about 3. We have had 2 sets of tubes and a sinus wash scheduled for next week, and a ton of speech therapy. After her tubes she began to speak. She has come a long way. We thought at one point that Brooke would no longer need speech therapy, and I was so proud of everyone's hard work. Then we notice she started stuttering, like 'wh-what, mmm- mom.' We were not sure if she did it on purpose; we would just tell her to quit it. As time went on and her ear infections passed, her stuttering became worse, to the point where we could no longer understand her. She would have facial distortions when she would try to speak. The speech therapist was working on sing song and smooth speech, but it did not help too much. My very confident and talkative child began not speaking except for one-word sentences. OF course my heart was breaking! There was no cure for my baby, all I could do is pray, and I did a lot! Why did my baby have to fight for her speech?

Then one night I heard my husband yelling, "Heather, come here fast!!" He was watching 20/20 or 60 minutes, and there was a young man that was a horrible stutterer, and he was trying a new device called a SpeechEasy. We were stunned. I immediately started researching the device. After a while I found a provider in Dallas, Mary-Irene Burtis. We are so happy we found her; she has been so thorough and helpful.

We took Brooke to Dr. Burtis. She hooked Brooke up to the SpeechEasy machine and Brooke's next sentence was smooth and clear as a bell. I remember that sentence well... "My daddy likes to drink beer." I am not sure why, but it was music to my ears. Brooke was so excited about her SpeechEasy and being able to speak again.

The SpeechEasy Brooke has is so comfortable and not noticeable at all. It sits in her ear like a hearing aid. It is a simple sing-song effect. She lightly hears herself talking. She was nervous about wearing it the first day -- she was afraid the kids would make fun of her. After school she was fine with it. All the kids thought it was cool, and she could talk to anyone now. The next 2 weeks Brooke stayed in trouble, talking out of turn, talking during class. She was confident enough to speak again, and she did just that. Her grades went up and she started reading just about a grade level higher than should she could before. Brooke's life has changed in every aspect. Her social, academic and self-esteem!

Brooke's speech began to smooth out even when she was not wearing her SpeechEasy. She would stutter if she had taken certain medications, or had an ear infection coming on. This past year Brooke does not stutter at all, with or with out her SpeechEasy. I still make her wear it. Her ENT told me the SpeechEasy re-trained her brain. People who meet her for the first time do not know she ever was a stutterer, and how badly. I guess my prayers were answered, and I am so thankful for the Janus company, Mary-Irene Burtis and the SpeechEasy.

I have before and after audio of Brooke's speech. I would love for everyone to hear it. I will gladly answer any questions. I want to let more people know about the SpeechEasy, there is help out there!

I was a severe stutterer all my life. I didn't hear about the SpeechEasy until I was 62 and retired. It completely changed my life. I could almost be a public speaker. After a couple of years I became fairly fluent without the device, (but) I carry it with me for use in certain situations. I went through most of my life having to prove my self because so many people think that a stutterer is retarded. Ignorance and stupidity is really frustrating.
