I feel for you--my wife dropped her 3 day old cell phone into the John and now it's not working.

Maybe e-mail support and ask them...

Good luck though, Brian

markb,
I am sorry for your misfortune. If it is any consolation you are not the first and will likely not be the last. The good news is many of the devices that go through the wash are relatively ok. The first course of action will be to leave the device in the dry aid kit for 3-4 days. Check each day to see if the indicator beads are still blue. As they turn pink you will need to recharge the desiccant pillow by placing only the pillow in the microwave for 2 or 3 times at about 30 seconds each time. When the pillow is charged about 10% of the beads will be blue. Be careful with the pillow after you take it out a of the microwave because it will be hot.
Often the device will come back to 90-95% full life using this method. Only a little residue from the detergent will affect the microphone and receiver diaphragm. If the device does not work after that period of time we will need to look at the possibility of a broken wire from all of the shaking around. There is however a slim chance the chip itself was ruined. Give us a call in a few days if you continue to have problems and we will work on getting it repaired.

Best Regards,
-Nick

So, for over 4 years, my Speecheasy has kept me over 95% fluent, and I do a lot of public speaking. But now I'm in panic mode! Mine also went thru the wash and dry cycles! What do I do? HELP! The tab on the device is BLUE! Someone, anyone...

Quick update: I just checked the device and it's working (so I believe). But the tab is still BLUE. I'm afraid to use it for fear that it fizzles out or fries. What do I do? It seems to be working. Any thoughts? Also, if I do use it from this point forward, will I cut into the lifetime of the device?

MatthewPaul,

I am not sure what the blue tab is that you are referring to. Concerning the life of the unit, assuming it is working now, only a little residue from the detergent will affect the microphone and receiver diaphragm. These can be easily replaced when necessary. If you do have problems, just give us a call.

My provider told me if it gets very wet to get one of those pressured air cans, the ones you use to blow dust out of your computer, and blow the moisture out of the device. Then leave it in the dry kit for several days.

I do not recommend that at all. The water will evaporate naturally. Forcing compressed air into the unit could cause major and permanent damage. It is one on the last things I would suggest doing.

It's probably too late, but I would recommend NOT turning the SpeechEasy on until it is as dry as you can possibly get it. Water does act as a bit of a conductor and you don't want to short circuit anything in the SpeechEasy.

UPDATE: So, I was able, after days, to turn the unit back on and it worked (sort of). There is, however, lots of distortion and it cannot handle the volume anymore. Therefore, as I see it, I must be sent in for repairs.

Most likely the microphone and speaker will need to be replaced. I have provided the details for your return in a personal email.
