SpeechEasy Referrals:

Helping Your Clients Obtain a SpeechEasy Device

If you have discussed SpeechEasy with your client and they are interested in finding out if SpeechEasy is right for them, here are some simple steps you can take to help guide them through the referral process. :
  1. Locate the providing SLP nearest to your client who is certified to dispense and fit SpeechEasy devices. The complete provider list can be found on our website at www.speecheasy.com.
  2. Provide that information to your client and have them contact the providing SLP to schedule an appointment.

Providing SLPs encourage you to be directly involved with the entire SpeechEasy process. You are encouraged to attend the evaluation as well as any and all follow-up appointments. During the initial evaluation, your client can expect the following:

  • Evaluations typically last about 3 hours.
  • Their stuttering will be measured and assessed and they will be given the opportunity to try a demonstration version of SpeechEasy. During this process, the providing SLP will custom-program the device to achieve the greatest improvement in fluency so they will be able to determine if SpeechEasy is right for them.
  • They will be given the opportunity to test SpeechEasy in a “real world” setting outside of the office for about one hour.

If your client chooses to purchase a SpeechEasy device, their completed device will be sent back to the providing SLP in about 3 weeks from the time of the order. Your client will be contacted to set up a final fitting appointment with the providing SLP where they will receive their device and further instruction. This appointment typically lasts between 1 to 2 hours at which time the providing SLP will complete the following:

  • Checking the overall fit of the device.
  • Teaching your client how to insert and remove the device.
  • Performing device programming and making any final changes to the settings.
  • Adjusting the volume.
  • Demonstrating proper care and maintenance.
  • Demonstrating additional therapeutic techniques.

The effects of SpeechEasy are further improved when traditional therapy techniques are used in conjunction with the device. In addition, the continued support from you as the SLP has proven to be beneficial for many of those currently using a SpeechEasy device. For this reason, the Online Certification Program was created. This program allows you to read some of the research behind the device, review therapy techniques that work well with the SpeechEasy and learn to maximize your treatment program with those utilizing the device. You are encouraged to take this free online SpeechEasy certification course found on our website to further your knowledge about the SpeechEasy.
