"The SpeechEasy device has definitely given me the confidence I needed in situations that I need or want to come forward and speak out. My whole life prior, these situations have been avoided where possible. My family, friends, and co-workers have all noticed and commended on my success. I have wanted to be a police officer my whole life but, never pursued it due to the public constant speaking I knew would be involved. Two weeks after getting my device I fulfilled a dream and went through the sheriff's office training academy and graduated amongst those at the top. I have been a part time Sullivan County Deputy Sheriff now for 5 months and my life is a new one!" Daniel O., 33, Sherrif's Deputy, User for 6 mos., Kingsport, TN
"As a student at Clemson University in the Architectural program, I have to make many presentations explaining my projects. The SpeechEasy has made these speeches easier and given me the confidence I needed. This year I was even awarded the top architectural award for the sophomore class!" Edward J., 19, Student, User for 24 mos., Spartanburg, SC
"As a speech pathologist who stutters, I am in a unique position to assess SpeechEasy's life-changing effects. For more than twenty years, I used conventional forms of fluency therapy to help control my speech. But for a variety of reasons, the effectiveness of such therapy began to diminish over the past couple of years.
When I first heard about the SpeechEasy device I was so impressed that I flew to
Greenville, North Carolina to learn first hand from the inventors how the device works. Within a few seconds of having the device in my ear, my fluency surged. I was speaking fluently without having to monitor my speech. If I experienced a block, I would momentarily hold the sound, and SpeechEasy's acoustic inhibition would kick in to enable me to release the word!
While the benefits are significant, it's important to remember that SpeechEasy is not a cure. There's a lot of conditioning that goes into using a device that essentially tries to trick the motor system. I've been using SpeechEasy for more than two years, and I'm getting better and better at enhancing it's effects in those 'difficult' situations." Cliff G., M.S., CCC-SLP,ASHA Recognized Fluency Specialist, User for 25 mos., Portland, OR
"Before I got my SpeechEasy, I was working in dead end jobs and was never satisfied. Prior to actually getting my device, I enrolled in an EMT course for the volunteer fire department that I am on. About halfway through the course, I found out about the device and decided to try it. My goals in the EMT class were not for employment in the field, but for better patient care in our first responder program. After receiving my device, I decided that I would go to work in the field and am now employed as an EMT with a local ambulance service. I could never do this job without the device. Communication is a huge part of my job. I have to be able to communicate with our dispatcher, and other agencies on the radio and also communicate with patients in our care. Without the SpeechEasy, this career would not be an option for me. Thank you so much." Henry M., 37, EMT, User for 15 mos., Searcy, AR
"I am an attorney so I speak in the courtroom everyday. Having the SpeechEasy device has giving me all the confidence in the world to speak before a jury. It means the world to me." Andre T., 30, Attorney, User for 12 mos., Cordova, TN
"I began stuttering when I began speaking. Throughout my life I tried just about every treatment option available - from conventional speech therapy, to intensive month-long clinics, to various prescription drugs - all to no avail. I was willing to try anything that held even the slightest promise to alleviate me of this lifelong disability.
With so many previous failures, I tried SpeechEasy with very cautious expectations. But to my surprise, the device immediately improved my fluency! And the improvement was significant - I estimate from 70 to 95 percent. For the first time in my life I found myself eager to make phone calls and speak to new people. Gone was the stomach quivering fear and anxiety that comes with having a debilitating vocal block.
"Thanks to SpeechEasy, I approach each new day with the confidence that comes from knowing I can communicate effectively and be my true self." Adam C.
"I was applying to Physician Assistant schools this year and was extremely nervous about my fluency during the interviews. I was afraid that I would be denied acceptance because of my stuttering and stammering problems. I wanted to purchase the device but did not have the finances available. I was able, however, to get a student loan and purchase the device 3 days before my first interview.
"I was extremely nervous during my first interview, but the device gave me reassurance and boosted my confidence. I was able to talk and express myself and my desires of becoming a PA instead of worrying about stuttering. I have had five interviews total as of today, and was accepted at two different schools. During my last interview, I forgot to put the device in, but had no problems whatsoever with stuttering. My last interview was by far the best, and I was accepted on the spot. The speech easy device has boosted my self confidence and made me more assure of myself in speaking situations. I do not wear it consistently, but I always make sure to have it in times of extreme stress. I do not worry about stuttering anymore. I accept it proudly and know that if I need a little extra help, it is there. Thank you so much, I am now going to be a Physician Assistant and don't worry one bit about stuttering!" Michael B., 26, Physician's Assistant, User for 6 mos., Pocatello, ID
"I am a forty-year-old speech-language pathologist who stutters. I have tried every therapy! Some examples are: Cafet, Precision Fluency program, Northwestern University's approach, and Hollins Fluency program. All of these therapies worked to some degree and for a certain amount of time. I have an advantage because of my career. However, no matter how hard I worked the therapies, they were not an acceptable percentage of fluency for my standards. To be precise, nothing has had such as impact on my life as the SpeechEasy. I could go on and on, but for efficiency I will list the ways. 1. My entire feeling about communication in general has drastically improved. 2. My self-esteem regarding my ability to communicate has improved greatly. 3. I use to dread the phone terribly. Now I am able to make phone calls I never thought would be possible. Because of my SpeechEasy, I actually enjoy using the phone. 4. My eye contact when talking is so much better. 5. I am overall more calm inside. 6. This is a difficult one to explain so I will do my best. When using the SpeechEasy, I feel like the transmission from the brain to the speech muscles are on a smooth tract which causes me to feel calm. I feel this even if I experience some stuttering behavior. Without the SpeechEasy I feel like the "connections are constantly going over bumps and getting lost." Renee S., 40, Speech Pathologist User for 10 mos., Plainfield, IL
"The SpeechEasy device is simply a miracle. Before the device, stutterers were reduced to ridicule, shame and embarassment because they stuttered. Now, we as stutterers can hold our heads up high and have the confidence necessary to do what we need to do in a speaking environment." Vincent L., 36, User for 12 mos., Holly Springs, NC
"I am a 43-year-old woman who has stuttered since I was 8 years old. Words cannot begin to explain the joy and satisfaction I have received since purchasing my SpeechEasy. I am extremely confident and know there are endless possibilities for me due to my fluency. In fact, I am enrolling in college in the fall because now I feel an education is not beyond my grasp -- nothing is. Also I have become more outgoing and social because I am not afraid to talk. Your device is truly a blessing and I am grateful for all that your company has done to improve the quality of my life." Rhonda Q., 43, College Student, User for 10 mos., Brunswick, GA
"Speech Easy has totally changed my life! I first noticed my stutter in 6th grade, when kids started teasing me and calling me "Stutter-butt." After that, I kept to myself and never participated in school. I was always the shy one in my group of friends, because I thought that if people heard me stutter, they would think that I had some kind of disability and they wouldn't want to be my friend. I never wanted to get a job where I would have to work face to face with people or where I would have to talk a lot. Now that I have the SpeechEasy, I am so much more confident. I work at a restaurant where all I do is talk to people, and I even volunteer at an elementary school. I am so much more social with my friends and am always making new friends. And now that I am in college, I am always participating in class. Basically, I am a totally different person that I was before I got the SpeechEasy." Rebecca R., 29, User for 13 mos., Stansbury Park, UT
"I can't begin to express how the SpeechEasy has impacted my life both mentally and physically. Mentally, I don't have all those hang-ups I had prior. I'm now not afraid to talk or answer the phone being afraid the person on the other end would hang up or laugh. I have more self confidence, I'm not afraid of words, sounds and I attempt words I would always find a substitute for. Physically, I'm more relaxed and comfortable with myself, finally at PEACE. The tension in the throat, mouth and stomach are 99% gone. I'm not exhausted after a phone call or social conversation. Being able to say what I feel and thinking every word matters is astronomical. My blood pressure's finally normal and I do believe it's because of SpeechEasy and I truly think it is a miracle. I can't thank you enough for making this device." Dianne K., 46, User for 12 mos., Essential Medical Personnel, Charlton, MA
"When I was fitted for the device I wanted to take it home. I didn't want to wait for mine. My self-confidence was so high while I had it in. I had just started junior high and did not talk much in school. The device has allowed me to participate in class and talk to everyone. I can go in a store and ask for whatever I need. I am not always 100% fluent but, before the device I was only 20% fluent. I love talking now." Dustin B., 14, Student, User for 12 mos., Medina, OH
"Before I had "SpeechEasy" I was extremely self-conscious about speaking in public. I was often ridiculed and asked rude questions about my stuttering. I didn't have the confidence to answer questions in class and avoided speaking to others. I was offered only minor, non-speaking roles in my school's dramatic productions while I dreamt of larger roles. My grandmother saw SpeechEasy on Oprah Winfrey's "Medical Miracle" show and excitedly told my mother. Last May my parents took me to Buffalo Hearing and Speech where I was allowed to try the device. My mother cried when she heard me speak without stuttering for the first time. Last Winter I played the Ghost of Christmas Past in "A Christmas Carol," my high school's winter play production. I am the only freshman student ever chosen for such an important role. Thanks to SpeechEasy I can now look forward with hope to applying to the American Academy of Dramatic Arts." Julie B., 15, Student, User for 11 mos., Canajoharie, NY
"I feel very blessed to have the SpeechEasy device. It has truly changed my life. I used to hate to read in school because I was embarrassed about my stuttering. I would focus so much of my time and energy trying to hide my stuttering, and then end up failing anyway. I also used to substitute less challenging words for the words that I really wanted to say. Sometimes I even purposely gave a wrong answer in class just to avoid using a word I knew would cause me to stutter.
I have been using SpeechEasy for about six months. It has given me confidence when I read at school and helped me speak more easily around my friends and family. All I have to do is talk along with the little voice that I hear when I'm wearing SpeechEasy, and fluent speech just comes out. I am so thankful to have SpeechEasy. When I wear it, I know that there is nothing keeping me from accomplishing my dreams." Emily, Age 12
"As someone who has stuttered his entire life, I am very pleased with my SpeechEasy device. My family and friends are amazed with my ability to speak more clearly. The effect on my life has been so profound that I consider my SpeechEasy device to be a part of me." John S. Sr., Charlotte, NC
"My 15 year-old son Robert received your fluency device on September 14, 2001. It has made such a difference in his life! We saw the improvement immediately. He has even participated in a debate in his history class!! Robert has been in therapy at The Speech, Hearing and Learning Center for the past two years. Because of our enthusiasm for your device, they are now in the process of becoming distributors for the device. Tonight, Robert and I have been invited to take part in the seminar for National Stuttering Awareness Day. I cannot say enough about your product and your research. Thank you. You have been an answer to our prayers." Melony S. Fortner
"I love the new speech device. Now I hate talking without it and I'm fairly fluent with it. It's great! I sent several emails to the lady in New Hampshire urging her to go ahead and get the device. I sure would hate to lose that device now that I've fallen in love with it. Keep up the good research." Joseph Wicker, M.D.
"Greetings again from 'down under'... It is now 4 weeks since David received his wonderful anti-stuttering device. A lot has happened in those 4 weeks; it has been an amazing and broadening learning experience for all of us, but most importantly for David. Perhaps one of the most significant comments was made by David himself: 'I'm just starting to realize that I am in control of my speech for the first time in my life... instead of worrying about whether the words will come out or if I'll have one of those major silent blockages where everyone feels major embarrassment and doesn't know what to do or say, I'm learning more and more each day about how to make the device work for me. There are strategies I can learn and practice - it is not an instant "cure" but it offers me the chance to get better and better the more I use the device, and I've only had it for just 4 weeks!!! It's really cool!'" Paula Drew
